As has been said, DTM shall be moving to a 5 day delay for Non-Gold Members with effect from 1st January 2010.
This move just like the last move has some guys critical about the same. Unlike other sites / businesses, we do not ignore the consumer but want to have him understand the reasons behind decisions we take.
First and foremost, I wish to bring to notice the fact that EOD data is Freely available at exchange sites. What we provide is value addition for which we feel a small fee is worth the effort that is being put up.
As against many other sites which do not provide even Historical Data or charge a huge sum for it, we have always provided historical data to everyone ir-respective of the fact as to whether he is a paid member or not.
Also, compared to many other vendors who use their own tickers, we use ticker symbols of the exchanges themselves hence ensuing that in case some one wants to shift elsewhere, there should be no trouble on that count.
Compared to other businesses where timeliness may not be a huge factor, timeliness of data here is Important. It does not matter if I give for free, EOD data after a few days since its stale by that point of time and unless its served on the day of the transaction itself, looses the value.
We started to give data on T+1 free of charge in the hope that members after seeing the data and quality would subscribe. If one were to notice, no data vendor provides a free access to data even on delayed basis. Instead, what has happened is that we find huge quantity of downloads happening day after day by members who do not have a Gold Subscription. To ensure that there is no hiccups faced by anyone, we are compelled to buy more band-with and spend our mearage resources.
We would like to bring new products which we hope shall benefit everyone. But everything requires capital and since we believe in charging only a small sum, we have to work out the best possible way to achieve the same.
Just to bring to notice, neither me nor my other partners have even touched a single rupee of what has been collected for our personal needs. What we have contributed as initial capital and money received henceforth is being used for betterment of the site and development of new products which we hope to bring out in the time to come.
Hope you understand. Else, as a member said, the world is big and we cannot compel anyone to either believe us or be part of us.
