Is it possible to tell me in short, what is the basis for expiry in case of commodity MCX,
I am not trading in Commodity, But in near future like to and I will Read about it before doing that still
Just a curiosity, I would like to know how MCX commodity expiry works, i.e. how they calculate expiry for contract because so different expiry is seen in it.
How like in Equity NSE follow last Thursday of Month as expiry
what about MCX commodity ???

Suhas

Thanks Prashanth
Can I come to know the basis of attaching -I,-II,-III,-IV........etc at the end symbol
after seen the bhavcopy of MCX of 07-01-2011, AND COMPARING mcx website bhavcopy with our desi trader bhavcopy
e.g.
SILVERM 31-Mar-11 expiry and attached end with -V
SILVERM 30-Apr-11 expiry and attached end with -VI
SILVERM 30-Jun-11 expiry and attached end with -VII
SILVERM 31-Aug-11 expiry and attached end with -vIII
AND
SILVER 05-Mar-11 expiry and attached end with -I
SILVER 05-May-11 expiry and attached end with -II
SILVER 05-Jul-11 expiry and attached end with -III
SILVER 05-Sep-11 expiry and attached end with -IV
I am not getting Logic behind attaching end roman No.
Could you Please explain
Thanks in advance

Hello,
In reality
SILVERM 31-Mar-11 expiry and attached end with -V
should be
SILVERM 31-Mar-11 expiry and attached end with -I
and same for others too. This is not limited to Silver but happens to a few other commodities as well (Gold Guiena, LeadMini, SilverM and ZincMini)
Since I too do not trade commodities, I had not noticed the discrepancy until a member pointed out a issue with GoldGuiena contract a couple of months back.
While we did think of working out a solution but due to some reason, it has not been dealt with till date. Shall ensure that the correct ticker naming is done so that there is not much of any confusion.
Do not that the data is correct, its only the naming that has got the logic wrong.

When will you rectify and I think this effect must be given from retrospective and all earlier Bhavcopy of commodities must be given again, either say in one download link to all members....
It will allow them to rebuild their database.
If Ticker is wrong how can you expect correct technical analysis even-though the data is correct.....
Hope you understand my view, All this is for OUR GROUP only & to improve quality of our Data......

My LOGIC : I think Roman no. should be attached in serial to same Symbol in ascending order of Roman No. with ascending order of Expiry date.
as MCX & NCDEX giving data with all, traded and Not traded, that means 'available for trading' all contract are present in Bhavcopy.
e.g
ALMOND 31-Jan-11 -I
ALMOND 28-Feb-11 -II
ALMOND 30-Apr-11 -III ( eventhough it is Not march )
CER 25-Feb-11 -I
CER 25-May-11 - II
CFI 15-Dec-11 -I
CFI 14-Dec-12 -II
SILVER 05-Mar-11 -I
SILVER 05-May-11 -II
SILVER 05-Jul-11 -III
SILVER 05-Sep-11 -IV
SILVERM 31-Mar-11 -I
SILVERM 30-Apr-11 -II
SILVERM 30-Jun-11 -III
SILVERM 31-Aug-11 -IV
Is my Logic is correct ? Pl. help to understand.....

One more question

We are working on the issue and a correction should be available as soon as possible. I don't think that we can correct all historical files but instead can provide a corrected file for the affected commodities from the beginning.
It will allow them to rebuild their database.
If Ticker is wrong how can you expect correct technical analysis even-though the data is correct.....
As the famous Shakespeare quote goes "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet"
While not defending the fact that our naming has got it wrong, the fact is that for a Technical Analyst, name is the least of the botheration. Give me any chart and I can provide you a Analysis based on just the historical pattern.
