View Full Version : Problem with IEOD data for 24.09.09 and other thoughts

First, let me admit that data for 24.09.09 missed quite a number of files (mostly NSE Indices and Futures). I am yet to understand the reason since a couple of future files got downloaded (which means that the system itself was not a problem).

I maybe should have observed it then and rectified, but did not do and by the time I could understand which files were missing, future files were no longer available since it was expiry day and the tickers were no longer available.

I have been able to get Indices data from Yahoo which means that only Futures data have to be taken care of. I am working on the same and shall make it available today evening or tomorrow.

Coming to the reason for the delay, please do understand that this is not a full time job for me (or my team for that matter). With 30th September being last day for IT filing, was busy with that and could not afford to make the time available to correct the problem.

IEOD data collection is not a cheap one. Most other IEOD data providers charge for one month or two at most, a sum of money that is more than what we are charging for the Whole package for a period of 6 months.

I am yet to see any other data provider provide FREE Historical Data. At DTM, every data provided by us is available for FREE for a length of time that is not available elsewhere. This is because we believe in delivering as much as possible for the client for the cheapest price.

At the rate we provide, forget profit, it does not even compensate us for the amount of time we put on a daily basis. But, we are doing it for the simple reason that we believe we should offer a alternative to the over hyped websites of other IEOD data providers who provide the same at a extremely high cost.

Just to provide another example, a lot of persons subscribe to data services where the data is made available from Yahoo. The logic is really simple, but I am pained to see people pay a monthly fee for such a small application. I still wonder why not a single IT guy has come up with a application for this and give it off for FREE. Afterall, since no one pays Yahoo, cost of data theoretically should be Zero.

My own personal observation and experience (not limited to data services of this site) is that Honesty is never appreciated. Feel sad, but seems that the world operates that way, always wanting to be a sucker but actually get sucked every where.

I at no point have ignored any complaint and reply and try to address the same as soon as possible. But there will always be limitations which hopefully one understands.
